High Sheriffs Awards

With two Crown Courts in Kent, at Maidstone and at Canterbury, the county's High Sheriffs are regularly invited by Judges to make awards under the Criminal Law Act 1826. This requires them to give monetary awards to people who, in the opinion of Judges at criminal trials, have been active in the apprehension of specific offenders.

Since 2005 Kent's High Sheriffs have awarded certificates to members of the various Cadet Forces in recognition of significant achievements, besides appointing High Sheriffs' Cadets. Since 2006 High Sheriffs have also made awards to model prisoners recommended by Prison Governors in order to boost their self-esteem and help them find employment on release.

High Sheriffs also make personal awards to individuals and groups who they consider have achieved success in a chosen activity.
