My Declaration ceremony took place in the wonderful surroundings of the former Courts building and Shire Hall in the centre of Warwick on Maundy Thursday 21st April. Time has flown by since I took Office as I have been juggling the new role with continuing to run a small Chartered Surveying practice in Stratford-upon-Avon. The lead-in time from my initial Nomination to the actual ceremony also seemed to go very quickly. Was I prepared?... just! I am thoroughly enjoying my Year of Office and a few photographs from different events follow.

Royal Shakespeare Theatre – Prince Charles came to the Theatre the day after
the Royal Wedding.

Warwickshire Fire & Rescue – I had a wonderful morning with the Chief Fire Officer of
Warwickshire on Monday 19th September. I was introduced to Green Watch and they
performed a very impressive training exercise and were keen to put the High Sheriff on
a hoist up to the fifth floor of a building! The Fire Service is very much in the public eye
at present as local authorities are looking to reduce costs and three fire stations in the
County are to close. They are also very keen to promote the installation of sprinklers
within residential homes. Whilst there is a cost implication, this is something that they
are very keen to promote in houses of multiple occupancy or houses occupied by
vulnerable people.

Garden Party – My garden party was held on 6th July in the garden of Halls Croft which
was home to William Shakespeare’s eldest daughter and is set in very beautiful grounds.
The weather was not very good but the tent allowed us to stay dry. I was able to donate
the use of the tent to the Shakespeare Hospice for a fundraising evening the following night.

There are lots of other events that I have been invited to and all of them have been very enjoyable. I see one of my roles as High Sheriff is to try and raise awareness within the County of a number of these smaller charities that are doing an extremely worthwhile job with limited resources and I have therefore decided to set up a simple website with a diary of the events that I have attended, giving a link in each instance to the particular charity which will hopefully assist them. The new website is
